Biography:

Samer Al-Amri is an independent writer, producer, and documentary filmmaker. His passion for filmmaking began in 2011 with the birth of the Arab uprisings. He studied cinema at the Higher Institute of Arts in Tripoli, and practised in the field of visual production for more than ten years, in which he trained under the Scottish Documentary Film Institute, in addition to many training programs at the Arab and international levels.

Samer participated in many local and international festivals, and his films won several awards, the latest of which has been the documentary Work and Struggle at the Erato Human Rights Film Festival.

He co-founded Libya Film Institute, an independent, non-profit cultural institution that aims to promote and raise awareness of the culture of cinema in Libya.

Samer advocates through his work to change the stereotypical picture of Libya and its people due to the heavy news coverage of wars in Libya.
