At the Libya Film Institute, we believe in the power of storytelling to inspire change, amplify unheard voices, and strengthen Libya’s filmmaking industry. Through training, dialogue, and collaboration, we help filmmakers use cinema as a bridge for culture, community, and human rights.

Who are we?

Libya Film Institute (LFI) is an organization that focuses on art and culture by advancing the filmmaking industry in Libya and involving filmmaking and cinema in making a change in society. LFI educates filmmakers about the importance of their role in improving the lives of others, promotes culture, and raises awareness of human rights through storytelling. Filmmaking and cinema are powerful forms of art that can reflect the diversity, creativity, and identity of Libyan people and culture.
LFI supports and protects Libyan artists by providing them with opportunities and resources to develop their filmmaking skills and share their stories with the world.

Our Story

Founded in 2021, LFI began as a response to the urgent need for platforms that protect and nurture Libya’s filmmakers and cultural voices. Over the years, we have grown from local workshops to national and cross-border programs that reach thousands, empowering filmmakers, human rights defenders, and communities to tell their stories safely and impactfully.
From our first training sessions to connecting over a million people through our digital platforms, our journey proves the transformative power of film. We remain committed to building a future where every storyteller has the freedom, resources, and support to inspire meaningful change.
