LFI Directory: Connecting Libyan Artists to Global Opportunities
LFI Directory: Connecting Libyan Artists to Global Opportunities
The LFI Directory project aims to increase the visibility of local artists, including scriptwriters, producers, directors, photographers, sound engineers, lighting technicians, actors, and critics. Simultaneously, it provides a crucial gateway for filmmakers to access necessary knowledge and opportunities within the cinema field. Work on this dedicated directory began in 2022, developed in both Arabic and English, allowing for personal profiles of filmmakers to be created and showcased.
The directory serves as a recognized resource. An onsite launch event was held in Tripoli, bringing together filmmakers, actors, visual artists, and social activists, fostering initial connections and discussions.
Currently, the LFI Directory features a growing number of artist profiles, with a commitment to continuously adding more in the future. Each biography undergoes an accuracy check before publication, upholding the platform’s reliability as a source of communication with artists and filmmakers.
Beyond its core function, LFI Directory has actively facilitated connections. It has enabled other non-profit organizations to reach filmmakers for specialized fellowship programs and assisted international film festivals in directly engaging with Libyan talent. The project’s engagement, while seemingly modest by some metrics, is considered a significant success given the context, exceeding initial expectations and resulting in a substantial number of registered beneficiaries and rich data.
LFI is now empowered to share information and opportunities with hundreds of members, fostering the growth of a new generation of capable creatives thriving in the arts. Notably, the directory has already facilitated a documentary production partnership between local and foreign-residing filmmakers, demonstrating its tangible impact. The LFI Directory project continues to make significant strides in fostering a vibrant film culture in Libya, providing an essential platform for artists and filmmakers to connect, collaborate, and access reliable sources of information and opportunities within the dynamic cinema field. The positive feedback from various beneficiaries and filmmakers underscores its value in providing unprecedented visibility and opportunities for collaboration and growth.
